In 2016, the elected officials of Ploërmel positioned themselves for the construction of a new school group, to merge 2 public schools: the kindergarten of Françoise Dolto and the primary school of Jules Verne. “The construction of the buildings of the two schools dates back to 1970. After they became obsolete, huge renovation works, at the cost of large envelopes, proved necessary. In 2019, we chose the project manager, the company Nomade de Vannes”, summarizes Patrick Le Diffon, mayor of Ploërmel and president of the Ploërmel community, in front of the audience that came to listen to him, this Thursday, September 15, in the indoor festivals.

Ploermelais (es), the students’ parents, the principal and the teachers were indeed invited to a public meeting. With a welcome from the first deputy Maurice Olivier, in charge of education and youth and in the presence of Julie Planchon and Vincent Le Garrec, representatives of the architectural firm Nomade, the aim was to present the new school, located in the ZAC in Noë Verte, to the residents of the municipality, curious how the works are progressing!

“This school will be the school of those who attend it, not the school of the municipality! Moreover, everything that concerns her is decided together at round tables. It’s a joint effort: students’ parents, teaching teams, support, extracurricular and kindergarten staff and elected officials all have the right to watch, just like it’s done for school hours!” emphasizes Maurice Olivier.

The work started a year ago with earthworks, the crane was installed in November, and the first bale of straw was laid on February 2. The works are carried out according to a predetermined schedule. Unless it is unforeseen, its opening is still scheduled for the next school year in September 2023.

The building is one-story. The architects, who offered a virtual visit to the participants thanks to a slide show, explained that they encountered difficulties with the surface of the sloping terrain. They took care of compensating for the inclined part. A sidewalk was built on the northern corner of the building. Access to the technical room is semi-underground. The school is built on a concrete base, with a walkway and an access ramp. Its frame is made of wood, insulation is made of straw, plaster will be made of lime, and a partially green roof, for waterproofing.

The installation of external and internal wooden partitions is currently underway. What remains is the partitioning of the Placoplâtre toilet, which will be done last when the roof is installed. “The roof is currently being produced in the workshop, at Belliard Construction in Gorron (53). After gluing this week, and making the supports for the next 3 weeks, the installation of the roof should begin in mid-October!”. After installing the roof, several trades can work together: waterproofing, exterior and interior carpentry, electricity, plumbing, etc.

The future school group will consist of 3 genders: kindergarten, primary and catering. The institution will receive 7 classes, but only 4 will be filled at the beginning of the school year. The rooms will have beautiful surfaces: 65 m2 for elementary classes, and there will be a workshop every time between the 2 classes. The classrooms in the kindergarten will be 75 m2 in size, and will have space for play and entertainment. A motor room with storage space is also planned. It could serve possible associations, because the school is in a neighborhood, surrounded by 300 housing units with a population that needs to be gathered. Finally, a mobile classroom equipped with 12 computers will be provided by the Ploërmel Communauté…

The total value of the construction of the new school is 5,450,000 euros. 2 subsidies were awarded: 411,500 euros from the state and 225,000 euros from the Department of Morbihan.

What is the name of this new school?

Families will receive a sheet to participate in the survey next week. They will suggest names for this new school group. “The survey is expected to return by the end of October. The Education Committee will then meet to determine the first selection. Next March, the City Council will meet to confirm the name of the school ZAC de la Noé Verte”, concludes the first deputy at the end of the meeting…

Explanatory panels have been placed at the entrances of 2 public schools: the Françoise Dolto Kindergarten and the Jules Verne School, in order to convey to families the elements and characteristics of this new school…
