The Carré Bleu de Pastel boutique, located on the Place de la Halle de Revel, reveals the secrets of the blue colors of its items.
Jean-Louis Fragasso, director of the dyehouse based in Roumens, is happy to open his doors to us and talk to us about the natural techniques of dyeing his various pieces of fabric, from household linen to clothing. Jean-Louis Fragasso reminds us that this plant, pastel, can only be found in the southwest, it is part of the heritage of the region. Only natural materials are dyed in Roumens dyehouse: linen, wool, silk, cotton… Natural dye, for natural products. Indeed, the pigment of the plant does not allow the dyeing of synthetic materials. In addition to dyeing fabric, the pigment extracted from pastel leaves can also be used to decorate wood, ceramics or even paper. Jean-Louis Fragasso also mentions his desire for the coming year to propose partnerships with artists, who would benefit from the blue pigments extracted in the dye rooms.
On Wednesday afternoon, the dyer opens her doors (pastel blue) to the public. The initiation of coloring is suggested, each participant leaves with a plate that he has colored himself. In 2017, Jean-Louis Fragasso plans to offer full days of discovery and initiation until May, from the picking of plants to the extraction of pigments, to finish with a colored fabric.
