Action was taken by the Corporation of Master Pipe Mechanics of Quebec (CMMTQ) against a company suspected of illegally performing the work of a master pipe mechanic. He would perform plumbing work without being a member of the CMMTQ, thus without the appropriate contractor’s license.
The company in question operates under the names Service Urgence, Plombier Urgence, Plombier Affordable, Plombier Monk, Plombier Saint-Laurent, Plombier Laval and Plombier Rive-Sud.
Investigations carried out by the corporation reveal that they operate in several regions of Quebec, such as Montérégie, Montreal, Laval, Lanaudière and the Laurentians. They use several names, phone numbers (514 307-3419, 450 987-3624, 514 532-0131, 514 535-0176, 514 319-0186 and 438 221-5390), websites (plumberurgence.ca and vodoinformator.com) and Google ads to contact potential customers.
CMMTQ is currently taking action to prevent these individuals from practicing as a master pipe mechanic, the statement said. Several malpractice claims have been filed in court against Laurie Boies and 9458-4414 Québec inc. If found guilty, they face fines ranging from $5,000 to more than $75,000 per offense under the Master Pipefitters Act.
Consumers who wish to report these persons to the CMMTQ are invited to fill out the application form. In addition, CMMTQ reminds that before entrusting the work of installation, repair, replacement or renewal of a water system, consumers must ensure that the person or company is a member of CMMTQ and holds the appropriate licenses. Consumers can verify CMMTQ membership by consulting the Member Directory or by contacting CMMTQ at 514 382-2668.
